What it addresses
Labiaplasty reduces the length of the inner folds; the excess is removed and the edge is closed with fine stitches so that it lies comfortably. Vaginoplasty tightens the tissues of the canal when they have become lax, and it is a deeper operation than labiaplasty. They are different operations with different recovery, and one is not added to the other without a reason found at examination. After childbirth none of these operations is done as a routine. Nothing is promised about sensation, intercourse or fertility, and the surgeon says so before a decision is made.

These operations are for adult women who have a physical complaint they wish to address: for labiaplasty, inner folds whose length is uncomfortable or that are irritated by clothing or sport; for vaginoplasty, laxity of the canal after childbirth or with ageing. How the plan is made
In the first days the area is swollen and tender, and rest is needed. Walking in short stretches is encouraged, while sitting for long periods, strong effort, sport and baths are limited until the surgeon allows them. Recovery after vaginoplasty differs from that after labiaplasty, and its limits are set separately. Hygiene care and the dressing are explained clearly before leaving. Intimate activity waits until the surgeon finds the area healed, and it is not rushed. After the flight home, care continues at home.
