Tummy Tuck in Turkey

A tummy tuck removes loose skin of the lower abdomen and can repair a separated midline muscle. Liposuction does neither, which is why the two are chosen on what the examination finds.

A tummy tuck is an operation that removes loose skin from the lower abdomen and, where the midline muscle has separated, brings it back together. Liposuction does neither of these things, and that is the reason the operation exists: fat can be thinned, but skin cannot be shortened and a gap between muscles cannot be closed from outside. It is most often considered after pregnancy or after a change in weight, when the lower abdomen no longer returns to its former shape. What it asks in return is a long scar, planned low from hip to hip, and the navel is often repositioned. A very small excess of skin may not justify that scar, and saying so is part of the advice. In Turkey the choice is made by examining the skin and the muscle, not by the wish for a flatter line alone. It is not a method of losing weight.

What it addresses

During the operation the skin and fat of the lower abdomen are lifted, the separated muscle is brought together with stitches where that is needed, and the loose skin is trimmed and drawn down. The scar lies low, from hip to hip, where underwear or a swimsuit can cover most of it, and the navel is often given a new opening in a fitting position. The length of the scar follows the amount of skin that is taken; it does not disappear and it is not described as hidden entirely. Small areas of fat can be thinned in the same session, but the main work is the skin and the muscle. The operation does not lower body weight and is not a substitute for it.

Who it is considered for

A tummy tuck is considered when the lower abdomen carries loose skin that hangs or folds, often after pregnancy or after weight has gone up and come down, and when a bulge persists in the midline because the muscle has separated. Weight should have been steady for some time, and a future pregnancy is discussed, because the operation is better done when the body is no longer changing. Smoking, earlier abdominal scars and skin quality are asked about before a plan is made. Where the skin excess is very small, or where the problem is only a layer of fat, the operation may not be justified, and liposuction or waiting is said plainly. A garment and, sometimes, a drain are part of the plan and are talked through on the body.

How the plan is made

In the first days the abdomen is swollen and tight, and a short period of walking slightly bent is ordinary; it eases as the tightness lets go. A drain is used only sometimes and carries fluid out of the fresh wound until the flow falls. A garment is worn for the first weeks so the skin settles flat. Walking is encouraged, while lifting and abdominal strain wait until the surgeon allows them. Swelling hides the final line for weeks and falls gradually rather than on a date. This page is general information; your plan is settled after examination and a written quote.

What the written plan settles

At examination the surgeon stands you up, pinches the lower abdomen, tests the midline for a gap and marks where the scar would lie, low and from hip to hip. Whether the navel must be repositioned, whether a drain is likely and how long the garment is worn are written at the same visit. The planned stay in Istanbul is 7–10 days, which covers the operation, the first wound check and the drain if one was placed. Op. Dr. Ramazan Güler clears the flight home once the wound, swelling and your walking allow it. The final line of the abdomen is not judged in the hotel, because swelling hides it.

What Our Patients Say

Notes from patients who travelled for face and neck surgery. Results differ from person to person.

I was collected at the airport and taken straight to the hospital. Blood tests and the ECG were done before I met the surgeon. He was clear about what a deep plane facelift could and could not do.

My coordinator answered every question before I flew. The room was clean, and the nurses checked on me through the night after the neck lift. I flew home once the surgeon said I was ready.

I asked about eyelids as well as the facelift. They were only added after the surgeon reviewed my health and the operating time. I appreciated that it was not automatic.

The written quote listed surgery, anaesthesia, the hospital nights, transfers and follow-up. Nothing about the price changed after I arrived.

The surgeon told me to wait on a brow lift. I wanted everything at once, but the advice was honest. The face and neck result still looks like me, just less heavy.

Swelling in the first week was exactly what they described. The coordinator still replies now that I am home. Healing is slower than the photos online suggest, and they said that too.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

A tummy tuck removes loose skin and can repair a separated midline muscle. Liposuction thins fat and does neither. If the skin hangs or the abdomen bulges in the midline despite a thin layer of fat, thinning the fat will not correct it. Where the problem is a layer of fat under skin that can recoil, liposuction is the conversation. The split is made at examination, with the skin and the muscle checked by hand.
The scar is planned low, from hip to hip, so that underwear or a swimsuit can cover most of it. Its length follows how much skin is taken. The scar remains and is not described as something that vanishes. The navel is often repositioned, which leaves a small scar around it. The line is marked while you are standing.
Yes. Where the midline muscle has separated, it can be brought together with stitches during the operation. Liposuction cannot do this. Whether the muscle needs repair is judged at examination by checking the midline for a gap. Repairing it does not lose weight. Pregnancy is a common reason for the separation.
No. It is considered when loose skin or a separated muscle remains after the body has settled, not as a routine step. A very small excess of skin may not justify a scar from hip to hip, and that is said plainly. Where the problem is only fat, liposuction or waiting can be the more suitable advice. The decision is made at examination, and a future pregnancy is discussed first.
No. A drain is used only sometimes, when fluid is expected to collect in the fresh wound. It carries that fluid out and helps the skin lie against the tissue beneath it. It is removed when the flow falls. It does not erase the scar and does not lose weight. How to care for it is explained before you leave for home.
The skin of the lower abdomen has been drawn down and feels tight, so standing fully upright pulls on the wound. Walking slightly bent for a short period is ordinary and is not a complication. It eases as the tightness lets go and swelling falls. Walking is still encouraged. If the pull is severe, the surgeon is told.
The planned stay is 7–10 days. That time covers the operation, the first wound check, the garment and care of a drain if one was placed. Swelling is not waited out in these days. The surgeon clears the flight home once the wound, swelling and walking allow it. The rest of healing, and the garment, continue at home.
