A forehead lift repositions a brow that has dropped or shortens a forehead made tall by a high hairline, through an incision placed at or behind the hairline. They are two different complaints, and the plan names which one is being treated.
A forehead lift is an operation on the upper third of the face that repositions a descended brow or reduces the height of a forehead made tall by the hairline, through an incision placed at or behind the hairline. A descended brow and a high hairline are two different complaints with different plans, which is why this is not the same page as a brow lift. Patients who plan from abroad often choose to travel to Turkey for it, and the surgeon begins by measuring the brow height and the distance from brow to hairline. The plan states which complaint is treated and how much change is wise.
The incision is placed at or just behind the hairline, depending on the height of the forehead and the thickness of the hair, and the brow is raised by releasing the tissue that holds it down and fixing it in a new position. Where the hairline is the concern, the scalp is advanced instead, which changes the design of the incision. The surgeon marks the brow while you sit upright, because gravity shows where it really rests. The aim is a natural, rested look and not a surprised one, and the amount of lift is agreed with you before the operation and written into the plan.
It suits a person whose brows have settled low and who looks tired, stern or heavy over the eyes because of the forehead and not the eyelids. It also suits a person whose hairline sits high and makes the forehead look long. Both can be present, and the surgeon separates them in the plan. Brow skin that is already very low may need a different operation, and loose eyelid skin is a separate matter that can be examined on the same day. Hair thickness and direction are checked, since they decide where the incision is hidden well.
The brow settles over the first weeks, and swelling can make it sit higher at first than its final position. Bruising may spread toward the eyelids and fades with time. The scar lies in or near the hairline, and how visible it is depends on hair, skin and healing; it is placed so that hair can cover it, but this cannot be promised. Raising the brow does not remove eyelid skin, and a brow that drops again later is a possibility the surgeon explains. This page is general information; your plan is settled after examination and a written quote.
The written plan states where the incision runs, how far the brow is raised and, if the hairline is the concern, how much it moves. The stay in Istanbul is 4–7 days, which covers the operation, a first dressing check and an assessment of the wound area. Op. Dr. Ramazan Güler clears the flight after examining the brow and the scalp. The forehead and scalp can feel tight and look swollen for a time, so you leave with written aftercare instructions, and you may wish to wear a loose hat.
