Revision Rhinoplasty in Turkey

Revision rhinoplasty is surgery on a nose that has already been operated on, where scar tissue and missing cartilage change what can be done. It is less predictable than a first operation, and the plan begins with the previous records.

Revision rhinoplasty is a second or later operation on a nose that has already been operated on, planned around the scar tissue, the cartilage that remains and the cartilage that is missing. It is less predictable than a first operation, because the tissues have been altered and heal differently. Patients who plan from abroad often choose to travel to Turkey for it, and the surgeon begins by reading the earlier operation notes, looking at photographs and examining the nose inside and out. The plan states what can be improved and what cannot, before any date is set.

What it addresses

Scar tissue inside the nose makes the layers harder to separate, and the surgeon works more slowly and with less margin. The cartilage that supports the tip and the sides may be weakened or missing, so grafts from your own ear, septum or rib are sometimes used to rebuild support. A graft restores structure; it does not make the nose a first nose again. Breathing is checked inside the nose too, because a nose reshaped without support can collapse on one side, and this is assessed in the plan before the operation.

Who it is considered for

It suits a person whose nose has a problem after earlier surgery, such as a collapsed side that blocks breathing, an uneven tip, a visible step on the bridge or a shape that has changed over time. It is usually advised to wait until the swelling from the last operation has settled, and the surgeon will tell you how long. Some goals are not realistic after earlier surgery, especially when much cartilage was removed, and this is said plainly. Operations by other surgeons are not criticised; they are read as information and become the basis of the plan.

How the plan is made

Swelling lasts longer after a revision, and the tip in particular can stay swollen for many months, so the shape that appears in the first weeks is not the final one. The result is less predictable than after a first operation, and a further small correction is sometimes discussed after the nose has settled. The skin may be thinner or thicker than expected, which affects how the tip shows through it. Numbness around the nose is common for a while. This page is general information; your plan is settled after examination and a written quote.

What the written plan settles

The written plan names whether cartilage from the ear or the rib may be needed, how long the operation is expected to take and which goals are realistic. The stay in Istanbul is 6–8 days, covering the operation, the removal of the splint and a check before travel. Op. Dr. Ramazan Güler clears the flight once he has seen the nose and the breathing. The nose is swollen and the tip stays swollen for longer than after a first operation, so you leave with written instructions on care and with the swelling still present.

What Our Patients Say

Notes from patients who travelled for face and neck surgery. Results differ from person to person.

I was collected at the airport and taken straight to the hospital. Blood tests and the ECG were done before I met the surgeon. He was clear about what a deep plane facelift could and could not do.

My coordinator answered every question before I flew. The room was clean, and the nurses checked on me through the night after the neck lift. I flew home once the surgeon said I was ready.

I asked about eyelids as well as the facelift. They were only added after the surgeon reviewed my health and the operating time. I appreciated that it was not automatic.

The written quote listed surgery, anaesthesia, the hospital nights, transfers and follow-up. Nothing about the price changed after I arrived.

The surgeon told me to wait on a brow lift. I wanted everything at once, but the advice was honest. The face and neck result still looks like me, just less heavy.

Swelling in the first week was exactly what they described. The coordinator still replies now that I am home. Healing is slower than the photos online suggest, and they said that too.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

It is usually advised to wait until the swelling and the firmness from the last operation have settled, because the true shape cannot be seen in a swollen nose. The surgeon tells you how long that will be by looking at your nose; no single period fits everyone. Operating early means working in scar tissue that has not settled and makes the result less predictable. The decision is made with you at the examination.
A first operation is done in intact layers. In a revision, scar tissue may have joined the layers together and some cartilage may have been removed or weakened. The surgeon works more slowly and with less margin, and support sometimes has to be rebuilt. For this reason the result is less predictable, and this is stated plainly in the written plan before the operation.
Sometimes it is. If the cartilage that supports the tip and the sides is not enough, support can be rebuilt with a graft from your own septum, your ear or, if needed, your rib. Which one is required often becomes clear only during the operation. The written plan names the possible donor sites, so that nothing comes as a surprise before you decide.
It can try, but this is not promised. The surgeon examines the inside of the nose and looks for a collapsed side, a narrowed passage or a bent septum. Breathing is assessed separately from the cosmetic change. Sometimes opening the airway matters more than reshaping the tip, and the plan is written accordingly.
Tip swelling lasts longer than after a first operation and can continue for many months. The shape in the first weeks is not the final one; the tip slowly refines and settles. The stay is 6–8 days, but the swelling is still present on leaving. The final shape is judged after months, and the surgeon tells you at follow-up whether the swelling is on the expected course.
A realistic aim is to improve the function and the look of the nose to a degree, not to rebuild a first nose. If much cartilage was removed earlier, some goals may not be reachable, and this is said before the operation. The possibility of a small further correction is discussed too. The surgeon states in writing what can be improved and what cannot.
Bring the earlier operation notes, any hospital report and photographs from before and after, or send them in advance. They show which cartilage was taken, which technique was used and how the nose has changed. The surgeon reads them to plan correctly, not to criticise. If there are no records, the examination and imaging fill the gap as far as possible.
