Nose Surgery in Turkey

Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by reading the bridge, the tip and the breathing separately, so that each is changed only where it needs to be. This page concerns a first operation, not a revision.

Rhinoplasty is an operation that reshapes the nose by working on three things that are read apart: the bridge, or dorsum, the tip, and the airway inside. A small change, such as lowering a slight hump, and a full plan that reshapes bridge and tip together are not the same operation, and they differ in technique, time and recovery. Breathing is assessed alongside appearance, because the inner structure that supports the airway is also the structure the surgeon moves. For patients who come to Türkiye for a first rhinoplasty, photographs show a direction, and the plan is written after the nose is examined.

What it addresses

The surgeon reaches the nose either through a small cut across the columella, the strip of skin between the nostrils, which is the open approach, or entirely from inside the nostrils, which is the closed approach. Neither is better in itself; the choice follows how much of the tip and bridge must be seen and shaped. The bridge may be reduced or narrowed, the tip refined with cartilage sutures or grafts, and a deviated septum, the wall between the nostrils, straightened. Skin thickness limits what can be changed, since thick skin shows less definition than the cartilage beneath it.

Who it is considered for

A first rhinoplasty is considered for adults whose nose has finished growing and who are bothered by the profile, the width of the bridge, the shape or angle of the tip, or by a nasal airway that is narrowed on one or both sides. Some want a modest refinement, others a larger change; both are legitimate and are planned differently. Earlier nose operations, facial injuries and allergies are reviewed first, and a nose that has already been operated on belongs to a different, revision discussion that this page does not cover.

How the plan is made

A splint is placed on the nose and usually stays for about a week, and soft supports may be placed inside the nostrils. Breathing through the nose is limited at first, and sleeping with the head raised helps the swelling. Bruising around the eyes appears in the first days and fades over about two weeks, while swelling of the tip takes many months to settle completely, so the early appearance is not the result. The scar of an open approach on the columella is small and fine. This page is general information; your plan is settled after examination and a written quote.

What the written plan settles

At the examination the surgeon looks at the nose from the front, the side and below, feels the cartilage and bone, and checks the airway inside. From this the plan is separated into bridge, tip and breathing, and the extent of the change is agreed. The planned stay in Istanbul is 6–8 days. Op. Dr. Ramazan Güler checks the splint, the skin and the airway before you travel and clears the flight home when swelling and breathing allow it. The early swelling is not waited out in the city.

What Our Patients Say

Notes from patients who travelled for face and neck surgery. Results differ from person to person.

I was collected at the airport and taken straight to the hospital. Blood tests and the ECG were done before I met the surgeon. He was clear about what a deep plane facelift could and could not do.

My coordinator answered every question before I flew. The room was clean, and the nurses checked on me through the night after the neck lift. I flew home once the surgeon said I was ready.

I asked about eyelids as well as the facelift. They were only added after the surgeon reviewed my health and the operating time. I appreciated that it was not automatic.

The written quote listed surgery, anaesthesia, the hospital nights, transfers and follow-up. Nothing about the price changed after I arrived.

The surgeon told me to wait on a brow lift. I wanted everything at once, but the advice was honest. The face and neck result still looks like me, just less heavy.

Swelling in the first week was exactly what they described. The coordinator still replies now that I am home. Healing is slower than the photos online suggest, and they said that too.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. The bridge is assessed for height, width and profile, the tip for shape, rotation and projection, and breathing for how air passes through the septum and the side walls. A change in one can affect the others, which is why they are read together but planned apart. A person may need work on only one of the three, and the plan names which.
A small change, for example smoothing a small hump or narrowing the tip slightly, touches a limited part of the structure and often uses a closed approach. A full plan reshapes bridge and tip together, may add cartilage grafts and takes longer to heal. They differ in technique, in time under anaesthesia and in recovery, so they are written as different operations in the plan.
It can, when the cause is structural, such as a deviated septum or narrow internal valves, and the surgeon addresses it during the operation. If the blockage comes from swollen lining caused by allergy, surgery on the structure will not remove it. The examination looks inside the nose to separate these causes, so that breathing is planned as its own part of the operation.
The choice belongs to the surgeon after examination. The open approach adds a small cut across the columella and gives a direct view of tip and bridge, which suits larger changes. The closed approach hides all cuts inside the nostrils and suits limited changes. Each has its own recovery pattern, with the open approach showing slightly more early swelling at the tip.
The external splint usually stays for about a week and is removed at a check before you fly. Soft internal supports or small tampons, if used, are taken out within the first days. The surgeon decides the timing according to what was done inside the nose. Until then, nose blowing is avoided, mouth breathing is normal, and a short stretch of discomfort in the face is expected.
A simulation shows a direction, and it is useful for talking about proportions with the surgeon. It does not show the actual result, because skin thickness, cartilage strength and healing change what the tissue can do. The surgeon explains which changes are likely for your structure and which are limited. Treat the image as a conversation aid, not as a promise.
Glasses resting on the nose are avoided for several weeks, because the pressure can move healing bone and cartilage; the surgeon explains how to support them on the forehead. Light walking begins early, while running, swimming and contact sports wait until the surgeon allows them, usually after a few weeks. Sun on the nose is avoided for longer, as the skin stays sensitive.
