Cheek Reduction in Turkey
Cheek reduction removes part of the buccal fat pad through a small incision inside the mouth, which softens a rounded lower cheek. It does not change the cheekbone, so it suits a face whose fullness sits low and soft.
Cheek reduction is an operation that removes part of the buccal fat pad, the pocket of fat deep in the lower cheek, so that a round, full cheek becomes slimmer. It is performed in Turkey through a small incision inside the mouth, which means the skin of the face is not cut. The cheekbone is not changed, and neither is the shape of the jaw. The decision rests on how much soft tissue the face has to spare, because a cheek that is already lean can look hollow with time. For that reason the first step is an examination, not a booking.
What it addresses
The surgeon makes a short incision on the inner surface of the cheek, level with the upper back teeth, and gently opens the tissue until the fat pad presents itself. A measured portion is drawn out, never the whole pad, and the two sides are compared as the work goes on so that the lower face stays balanced. The incision is closed with dissolving stitches, and no cut is made on the skin. Depending on what is agreed at the consultation and on your health, the operation is done under local anaesthetic with sedation or under general anaesthetic.

This operation is considered by adults whose lower cheeks look round and full even at a steady weight, and who can feel that the fullness lies deep in the cheek rather than over the bone. It is less suitable for a face that is already narrow, for someone who is still losing weight, or for a person whose concern is a flat midface. During the consultation the surgeon palpates and photographs the cheek from several angles, and asks how your face has changed over the years, since fat reserves shrink with age.
How the plan is made
In the first days the cheeks are swollen and may feel tight, and the swelling can make the face look fuller than it did before. That is expected and does not show the finished contour, which takes a few weeks to emerge as the tissue softens. You eat soft food at first, rinse the mouth after meals and avoid pulling on the lips. The small stitches inside the mouth are not visible. No. The operation removes fat from the buccal fat pad, which lies below and behind the cheekbone, and it does not touch the bone or the tissue that sits over it. If your face is flat in the midface, the cheek will look hollower after reduction, not better defined. Changing the cheekbone itself is a separate operation and is planned on its own page.
The incision is placed on the inside of the cheek, near the upper back teeth, so the skin of the face is not cut. There is a healing line inside the mouth, closed with dissolving stitches, and it is normally not seen once it has settled. Mouth rinsing and soft food in the first days protect that line while it closes.
It can in a face that is already lean, because the fat reserves in the cheek shrink further with age and the removal adds to that loss. This is the main reason the surgeon looks at your bone structure, skin and age before agreeing to the operation. A round face with enough soft tissue tolerates a measured reduction far better than a narrow one.
Swelling is greatest in the first days and fades over the following weeks, and the cheeks can feel firm or slightly uneven while it does. It is often a little different on each side. Cold compresses, keeping the head raised and soft food help, and at the final review the surgeon tells you which signs are normal and which are a reason to call.
For the first days you eat soft, cool or lukewarm food such as yoghurt, soup, eggs and mashed vegetables, and you avoid hard, spicy or very hot items that irritate the incision. After each meal you rinse your mouth gently with the solution you are given. Normal chewing returns as the swelling goes down, and the surgeon will say when.
The surgeon feels the cheek between finger and thumb and looks at the face from the front and from the side. Fat from the buccal pad feels soft and sits low, near the angle of the jaw, while bone sits higher and feels firm. Photographs taken in good light help to show where the fullness begins. This is why a short online chat cannot replace an examination.
It changes the lower cheek, and that can make the lower face look more defined. It does not reduce the width of the jaw, the skin of the neck or fat elsewhere in the face. If your concern is a heavy jaw outline, a different reading of the face is needed, and the surgeon will explain which part of the face is the actual cause.
