Gynecomastia in Turkey

Gynecomastia surgery reshapes an enlarged male chest by removing glandular tissue, excess fat or both, depending on what the examination finds. It is not a hormone treatment and it is not a weight-loss operation.

Gynecomastia surgery is an operation that reduces an enlarged male chest by removing glandular tissue, excess fat or both, so that the outline of the chest becomes flatter. The first question is always what the enlargement is made of, because a firm gland under the areola and soft fat are treated differently. Patients who plan from abroad often choose to travel to Turkey for it, and the surgeon examines the chest by hand, asks about medicines and weight history and writes the technique into the plan before a date is chosen. It treats the chest, not the cause behind it.

What it addresses

The surgeon feels the chest to separate gland from fat. Fat is removed with a thin cannula through small openings, while firm gland under the areola has to be taken out through a short cut along the edge of the areola, because suction alone does not remove it. When both are present, they are treated together. If the skin has stretched, some looseness can remain, and a skin reduction is discussed separately rather than promised. The aim is a flat, natural chest outline that matches your build, and this aim is written into the plan before the operation.

Who it is considered for

It suits a man whose chest enlargement has stayed the same for a while and bothers him in clothes, at the beach or in the gym. A firm button of gland under the areola points toward surgical removal, while a soft, fatty chest may respond to liposuction. It is not a hormone treatment, and if a medicine or a medical condition may be involved, a doctor should look at that first. It is not weight-loss surgery either, and losing weight beforehand sometimes changes what is needed. Teenagers and recent growth are discussed with extra care.

How the plan is made

A compression garment supports the chest in the first weeks, and bruising and swelling settle slowly. A small amount of fluid can collect and is checked at follow-up. The result is judged after months, once the swelling has gone. If the cause was a medicine or a hormone problem, surgery does not remove that cause, and the chest can change again. Weight gain also changes the chest, because fat can return. Nipple sensation can alter. This page is general information; your plan is settled after examination and a written quote.

What the written plan settles

The written plan states whether the technique is liposuction, gland removal through a small cut at the edge of the areola, or both, and whether extra skin is expected to remain. The stay in Istanbul is 4–7 days, covering the operation, the first dressing check and a visit before travel. Op. Dr. Ramazan Güler clears the flight once he has checked the chest for fluid and bruising. A compression garment is worn for a period, swelling is still visible on leaving, and written instructions explain the movements to avoid.

What Our Patients Say

Notes from patients who travelled for face and neck surgery. Results differ from person to person.

I was collected at the airport and taken straight to the hospital. Blood tests and the ECG were done before I met the surgeon. He was clear about what a deep plane facelift could and could not do.

My coordinator answered every question before I flew. The room was clean, and the nurses checked on me through the night after the neck lift. I flew home once the surgeon said I was ready.

I asked about eyelids as well as the facelift. They were only added after the surgeon reviewed my health and the operating time. I appreciated that it was not automatic.

The written quote listed surgery, anaesthesia, the hospital nights, transfers and follow-up. Nothing about the price changed after I arrived.

The surgeon told me to wait on a brow lift. I wanted everything at once, but the advice was honest. The face and neck result still looks like me, just less heavy.

Swelling in the first week was exactly what they described. The coordinator still replies now that I am home. Healing is slower than the photos online suggest, and they said that too.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

The surgeon examines the chest by hand: a firm, rubbery button under the areola suggests gland, while a soft, spread-out fullness suggests fat. Many men have both. Imaging can be requested if needed. The difference matters because it decides the technique, and the written plan gives each part its own line, so you can see what is being treated and how.
For a soft, fatty chest, liposuction is often enough. If there is a firm gland under the areola, liposuction alone does not remove it; that tissue is taken out through a short cut at the edge of the areola. The technique is therefore chosen from what the examination finds, not from habit. The surgeon explains this and writes the reasoning into the plan.
In some cases a medicine or a medical problem contributes to chest enlargement, and a doctor should assess that first. Surgery does not treat that cause; it removes tissue from the chest. If the cause continues, the chest can change again. For this reason the surgeon asks about your medicines and health history and, if needed, refers you to another specialist first.
When gland is removed, a short cut is made along the edge of the areola, where the change in colour helps to hide it. When fat is removed with a thin cannula, there are only very small openings. Scars are red at first, fade over months and stay slightly visible. The surgeon marks the cuts with you before the operation and records them in the plan.
Losing weight can reduce the fatty part of the chest, but it does not reduce firm gland. If a firmness under the areola remains after weight loss, that part may need surgical removal. Gynecomastia surgery is not weight-loss surgery. Sometimes the surgeon suggests losing weight first and reassessing afterwards, and that decision is made with you at the examination.
Gland tissue that has been removed does not grow back, but remaining tissue and fat can change. Weight gain can bring fat back to the chest, and if the cause was a medicine or a hormone problem, the chest can enlarge again because surgery does not remove that cause. The result is therefore not described as fixed for life. The surgeon explains this before the operation and writes how follow-up will be arranged.
The stay is planned for 4–7 days, covering the operation, the dressing and the check before the flight. Chest and arm exercises are avoided for several weeks, and the surgeon sets the timing by how you are healing. Wearing the compression garment for the advised period helps the swelling settle. Do not return early on your own; if swelling increases, tell the team.
