What it addresses
At the examination the surgeon looks at how low the nipple sits, how much skin is loose and how much volume the breast has. In a lift the nipple is moved on a pedicle that keeps its circulation. Opening a pocket and placing an implant on the same day asks more of that circulation. This is not a sign of a problem; it is part of a careful plan, and it is discussed with you before the operation.

If the blood supply to the nipple is reduced, healing of the skin can be delayed and the colour can change. The surgeon therefore watches the colour and warmth of the nipple closely.
